What a ride. God, that was great.
Hasn’t ended yet, but still. What a blast.
We didn’t get the Academy Award Nomination.
Gonna sound nuts, but there’s a real sweet ring to that. Think I’m going to say it again. “We did not get the ACADEMY AWARD NOMINATION!!!
Booo Hoooo!
HA!!! How many people out there can say such a thing? A very precious few indeed. I swear if I wasn’t laughing so hard I’d be dancing on top of the Vancouver Film School.
CENTIGRADE has traveled the world. Won more than a few blue-ribbon keepsakes, critical acclaim, strolled its share of red carpets and made internet history. It also qualified and made the short list for an Academy nomination. Not bad. We’ve learned so much and met some great people. But, perhaps more importantly, we’ve been vindicated. For as much as we’ve had many good souls in our court, there have also been many out there that secretly wished us cancer.
It’s not something you really blog, but it’s an interesting phenomenon to say the least. Success is great, just so long as it’s not yours. Ah, people.
Which brings me to what may perhaps be my last entry for a little while. This blog has been going on for quite some time and we SO much appreciate your coming by to visit. To check on the films progress etc. But the big day, Oscar Nomination Day, has now come and gone. And well, that’s a good enough milestone to move on a bit.
Time to make another film!
We’ll keep you posted on what we’re up to. (Centigrade is still in the running for a GENIE, ‘Canadian Academy Award’!)
But on behalf of Madison, James, Derrick, Brianne, Jonathan and myself, we just wanted to say ‘Thank You’ once again.
The above picture was sent to me by Eileen Hoeter. A filmmaker and wonderful supporter of mine for well over 14 years. It was actually the first e-mail I received this morning and well, I think it pretty much sums up the magic of the last 2 years.
Thanks Eileen. And thank you all.

Don’t quite know how to say this, but…
CENTIGRADE has just become the fastest live action short ever to break the iTUNES ‘TOP TEN’ (not just in the US, but the UK and CANADA as well. All Top Ten.)
Not only has the film been ranked at #2 in Shorts, but has also just gone on to break the Top Ten in ‘OVERALL’ film downloads. That includes ‘features’. Multi-million dollar studio films such as IRON MAN and INDIANA JONES, etc.
In short, CENTIGRADE has just become the ONLY short on Apples list of Hollywood’s biggest budgeted and most successful money makers.
Thank you ALL.
How cool is that?
Sincerely, Colin and Madison
CENTIGRADE has broken the iTUNES ‘TOP TEN’ lists in both the UK and CANADA!!!

Competing against million dollar PIXAR budgets, CENTIGRADE continues to break new ground! Top Ten US here we come!

Hi everyone.
Just wanted to add a bit of surprising news.
CENTIGRADE just took ‘BEST SHORT’ at the NEW HAMPSHIRE FILM FESTIVAL!
iTunes should be up very soon. Just hang in there.
C.
This week we made our ‘formal’ submission to the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. Our hope? An Oscar nomination.
And so, 22 months of blood, sweat and tears was handed across a young woman’s desk in Beverly Hills… and into God’s hands. Nothing more we can do now. Insane to think we even got this far. The yay or nay comes in December. Wish us luck.
I look back on the first blog ever written on this project and I can only smile. I’m glad I’ve written as much as I have. Granted, the material has often veered into numerous rants about people, places and things. After all, the world doesn’t revolve around something as silly as a movie. Certainly not mine. But since my first musings went global, people have died, babies have been born and the ‘little film that could’ has simply refused to go quietly into the night.
Never in our wildest dreams did we expect to be here. It’s truly so very hard to articulate the history of this project. 22 months ago Madison Graie mouthed 6 fateful words, “You still got that Fahrenheit script?” and nothing has ever been the same.
6 words. 22 months. 76 Blogs. 6 Countries. 17 Festivals. 10 ‘Best of’ Nominations. 8 ‘Best of’ Awards. 1 ‘Honorable Mention’. And ‘1’ Academy Award Qualifier.
The ‘road to hell’ is paved with quite the tally. Today, I’d like to add one more.
12 Billion.
Today, we announce perhaps the greatest of all news.
**CENTIGRADE HAS BEEN FORMALLY SIGNED TO… iTunes!!!!
YEEEEEE HAAAAAA!!
Not only that, but CENTIGRADE is the FIRST Canadian ‘Live Action’ Short Film to have ever made it into iTunes!! We’ve made history!
Currently, the only way to get into iTunes, is to be signed by distributor SHORTS INTERNATIONAL (which we have). A trick in itself. And if should you be able to pull that one off, your film has then to go through another judging process to be considered for iTunes. Well, we did it.
CENTIGRADE will go global on the 21st of this month for iTunes UK, CANADA and US. as part of iTunes and Shorts International’s HALLOWEEN HELL MONTH and we are going to be doing everything we can to help grease the rails. We are currently setting up Centigrade Facebook and My Space pages and when the film finally goes online, we would ask that you might ‘link’ us to any club, group or networking system you have. It would be so incredibly appreciated. The more ‘hits’ the film gets… well, you know the drill.
Just think about it! CENTIGRADE could become the biggest money maker of all time!! 6 billion people @ 2 dollars a download… that’s 12 BILLION DOLLARS.
*We will also be concurrently offering the DVD for sale (autographed if you’d like) right here on the Centigrade website. Again, all later this month.
And so, the Producers would like to make the following offer. Should Centigrade hit the 12 Billion dollar mark, we promise to fly everyone (and their families) who have ever supported the film to a great big Centigrade ‘party’ in Hawaii. Not only that, but when they get there they will take possession of a brand new JEEP WRANGLER!!!
Or, if you prefer, we could all split the 12 Billion between us. Figure it should still come out to about 50 - 60 million a piece. (Or, like I said… the Wrangler.)
So, this is the month to do it everyone.
October.
Halloween.
CENTIGRADE goes global.
And when it does (on the 14th), we will simply announce it by issuing the following,
“The Road to Hell - IS LIVE.”
Big ‘thank yous’ once again to our cast and crew. Derrick Garland, Jonathan Tyrrell, Ron Sauve, John Penhall, Martin Wood, Simon Young, John Smith, the DGC, British Columbia Film, Paul Sharpe, Fulvio Cesere, Kal Suurkask, Brianne McQuair, Rob Hienbecker, Kevin Hall, Mark and Claudia Rickerby… the list goes on and on.
And of course to anybody who’s ever come to this site to borrow a cup of sugar.
Thank you ALL.
Keep you posted.
Sincerely,
Colin and Madison
For those of you that adore ‘AIRPLANE’ type humor, you’ve got to check out
AN AMERICAN CAROL. David Zucker’s latest and greatest.
It’s an absolute riot.
Nothing like an anvil to the face to put me in tears.
News?
Of course there’s news! Exceptional news!!! But, I can’t say anything for another couple of weeks.
Instead, I will simply say that something very cool will be happening with CENTIGRADE come October. (After all, October is the month of ghosts, goblins and of things that go bump in the Airstream!!!) Keep your eyes ‘peeled’. Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!
Okay. Couple of quick festival updates. If you’re in the neighborhood, CENTIGRADE will be playing at the following;
The INTERNATIONAL HORROR and SCI-FI FESTIVAL in Phoenix, Arizona!
The MILL VALLEY FILM FESTIVAL - Northern California!
The BACKYARD FILM FESTIVAL - Palm Springs!
The WHISTLER INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL - Whistler, British Columbia!
And the CANADIAN FILM CENTER has requested our presence at their WORLD OF SHORTS SERIES at the NFB Mediatheque - Toronto, Canada
ALSO!!! If you live in San Diego, you’ve got a chance to go see one of my favorite short films of the year, CUTE COUPLE by Courtney Balaker. It’s playing in San Diego THIS coming weekend!! And, if you can’t make it, spread the word to anybody hanging out in Southern California this weekend. It’s a great film. San Diego Film Festival. Check it out, you won’t be disappointed.
And for those of you looking for something in ‘clothing optional’ resorts in California, click here.
