LITTLE HELP?
Hey everyone. Need some help here.
It’s tough trying to come up with a new entry every three to four days and so, I’ve come up with an idea.
I need some suggestions.
Anything ‘film’ related. And not, “Did I like making the movie?” but, questions that would imply a little something more than, “Yes. It was great.” Could be anything. Only try and keep it to the spirit of what this sight is all about. Movies. The ‘process’, the people, specific hassles, how can ‘you’ make a movie? I don’t know. All I know is that I enjoy writing them, but since things don’t always happen every four days, it’s kind of hard to keep it all going with something interesting. So. That said, just use the ‘comments’ to write a question. But ONLY one. And if I only get ‘one’ then I’ll know that this site totally blows and that no one is tuning in. Kind of like my career.
Talk soon.
C.

OK, I can do this, only because I am hounded with these questions so often about the creative process and such many a times… so here I’ll go with one of many (that pop in my head and if you want more, I got more):
How did you conceive the idea for “Centigrade” and was it difficult going from concept to actual writing a script?
Why didn’t the main character in Centigrade drink the fish bowl if he was so desperate for water, and eat the goldfish? It counts as sushi, right?
I am definitely tuning in, every day thanks to the rss feed to Live Journal that was set up! Some of your words make me smile, some make me think, and some have me nodding my head furiously as I think, “I so agree!”
So, question:
Centigrade has very little speech in it. Would you consider it more or less difficult to write a ‘script’ like that, as opposed to writing something that has conversation flowing between characters?
Er, does that make sense?
“Got the rattle………….Snake wants to spit Call 9-7-6 and let my hand do the rest” Motley Crue…
ima sofa king we todd it!
What stage is another one of your ideas in?…”THE METHOD”
What criteria would you use to select extras on a feature?
How about the addressing the religious angle…karma, Hell, or just a boy’s drawing and imagination? See you in a couple weeks, and Sean Hogan sends best wishes from Saskatoon.
As a writer and director, regarding the process of translating what you visualize in your mind to a medium where others can see it : 1. How satisfied are you with the end product? 2. How closely does it match your original “vision”?
3. What do you see as difficulties in translating from the mind’s eye to film/video?
Have you ever developed an visual idea of a scene in your head while you were initially writing only to decide moments before filming that you were off-target?
What inspired the change - actors, sets, costume, etc?
Colin, my last question was a bit general, so here’s a more specific one.
What literary work (in the broad sense, anything from haiku to “re-imagined” film /TV series) would you like to bring to the large or small screen?
All the best, Gilder
Hi and it’s good to know I’m not the only one who can’t think of things to say in blogs! I’d like to say I’m glad you are doing this one it’s always good to read on a monday, it always brightens my mood up.
I am curious about the writing, as someone who has never tried screen writing I always wonder if film writers start of with a short story version first and then convert it or is it easier to write the script alone? I have been toying with the idea of trying one at some point, just to say I’ve tried, and so any hints and tips would be great.
It’s good to know there are actors out there who CAN act and act well in short films. So much of late, I’ve seen my fare share of crap, however well conceived. The teaser for Centigrade really captured my attention. As a writer of screenplays and too many shorts, I’d give my eye teeth to have Colin take on one of my characters.
Range, range, range -
You’d make a helluva Devil. Or would that be a character with Heaven and Hell issues?
